Interest in the development forest utilization and woodworking industries is reflected in the continual demand for information on new equipment. FAO's Forestry Division collects such information and passes it, on request, to Member Governments. Some of the information collected is published here. PORTABLE: FIRE PUMP. - Self-priming centrifugal pump weighing 57 lb. (26 kg.) complete; capacity 15,000 gal. (57,000 liters) per hour. Delivers water at pressures up to 100 lb. (45 kg.) and is equally effective in delivering fog, spray, steam or foam. Motor: light weight, two cycle engine, with 7 h.p. capacity at 4,500 r. p. m. The pump has an automatic rewind and cable type starter; lubrication from the fuel mixture with no greasing or separate oiling required. The non-clogging impeller is mounted on the engine shaft to eliminate bearings in the pump.

PORTABLE BRUSH GRINDER (Model No. 3). - Portable unit with self-contained power plant for grinding branches, tree trimmings and brush into small wood chips. Brush and branches are fed into the grinder where they are chewed into small usable wood chips and automatically blown into a truck or into a pile on the ground. The new model No. 3, will take branches and brush (either green or dry) up to 6 in. (15 em.) in diameter, and can grind from 2,000 to 3,000 lb. (900 to 1,350 kg.) of brush per hour. Easily transported, this model has standard ball type trailer hitch for fastening to jeep, car or truck. When unhitched the retractable jack keeps the unit level and allows it to be moved easily.

ELECTRIC DECK CHAIN SAW. - Stationary version of the Danarm electric chain saw. It is powered by a 10 h.p. motor. The electric motor is normally adapted for operation on 380/440 volt, three-phase 50 cycle A.C. supply. Specifications saw is available with cutting widths of approximately 3 ft. 3 in. (1 m.), 3 ft. 1 in. (0.9 m.), 4 ft. 10 in. (1.5 m.), 6 ft. (1.8 m.) and 7 ft. (2.1 m.), and can be fitted if required with special long-wearing chromium plated saw chains to cope with the more difficult timbers.

SAW SETTING PLIERS (Lasso Universal, Model B)-Saw setting device which will spring-set practically all saws with thickness ranging from 11 to 22 (Stubs wire gauges). Accessories consist of various tools comprising four dies (0, 1, 2 and 3) three different punches (A, B and C) two different tooth-beds, 1 spare spring, screws and a locking rod. The shanks of the pliers are devised to allow an easy interchange of tools to suit the gullet of the circular saws or millwebs, irrespective of thickness of saw if the correct punch is used; it will operate successfully on drag, log, felling, pit and one-man saws, as also on hand and back saws for cross cutting and ripping, whether the gullets are wide or dense.

LOGGING TRUCK. - Truck constructed in four models to carry loads of 3, 4, 5 and 8 tons. Log is raised by means of a hand-operated winch connecting shaft is adjusted to length of log by 4 screws; supporting hooks have safety fastener. Metal shield protects tires and brake drums; wheels fitted with conical steel hub in segments which prevent penetration by water and mud.

MANDATOR MARK III. - Specifications: maximum gross weight without trailer, 31,360 lb. (14,224 kg.) weight with trailer or semi-trailer 56,000 lb. (25,400 kg.) provided individual axle weights at the ground do not exceed 11,200 lb. (5,080 kg.) on the front and 20,160 lb. (9,144 kg.) on the rear. Engine: A.E.C. 9.6 liter 6 cylinder, direct-injection oil engine, 4.72 in. (120 mm.) bore x5.59 in. (142 mm.) stroke. Power developed, 120/125 b.h.p. at 1,800 r.p.m. Except when a single rear axle drive of 7.9:1 ratio is required, a more powerful engine is offered as alternative: A.E.C. 11.3 liter, 6 cylinder, direct injection oil engine, 5.12 in. (130 mm.) bore x5.59 in. (142 mm.) stroke. Power developed, 150/153 b.h.p. at 1,800 r.p.m.

MODEL MK 26.-Trailer is raised onto the truck by means of a winch fixed behind the driving seat. Truck is available with 4-wheel drive if desired. HEAVY DUTY LOGGING TRUCK. - Model illustrated has gross vehicle weight of 70,000 lb. (31,750 kg.). Available in various engine, axle and transmission combinations ranging from gross vehicle weight 48,000-110,000 lb. (21,800-50,000 kg.). Logging trailers of 35 ton rating are usual complement to Model 30-70 trucks. Other trailers of 25 and 50 ton capacity are available in this series. SAW BENCH "CIRCULEX", 14 IN. (36 CM. - Specifications: height, 31 in. (78 cm.); length, 24 in. (60 cm.); width, 15 in. (38 cm.).

Saw bench is made of heavy gauge steel plate. Powered by electric motor or petrol engine of 3 h.p. 2 h.p. or 1 h.p. for 14 in., 12 in. or 10 in. (36, 30 or 25 cm.) blade. The petrol engine is mounted on Dunlop rubber mountings, rendering saw bench free of vibration. Fully adjustable fence to suit blades of different sizes and tilting to 45°. "RADYNE" (Model H25/W): Radio frequency glue-setting equipment with power output of 3 kw. Heat output control, full vision process timer and heat output meter are on the front panel. The gluing jig is connected to terminals positioned at the rear of the cabinet and not visible in this photograph. Specifications: input, 5 kw. 360/440 V. 3-phase and neutral 50 cycle. CROSS CUT SAW 16 IN. (41 CM.) (Type H.C.S.). - Saw designed for sustained production work. No slide rails or rollers. Essential parts are totally enclosed and all controls are within reach. Operation is by foot pedal which is fitted along the front of the machine. A table of rigid design, 8 ft. (2.4 m.) long is fitted each side of the saw. Either side may be fitted with semi-auto stops and ruled stop bar or fixed fence. Rise and fall of the saw is effected by means of a handwheel. Specifications: cutting speed is controlled by a dial giving infinite variations up to 120 ft. (37 m.) per minute. The return speed is constant at 150 ft. (46 m.) per minute. Maximum cutting stroke is 20 in. (51 cm.) and maximum depth of cut is 5 in. (13 cm.), diameter of saw, 16 in. (41 cm.); speed of saw, 2,500 r.p.m.; saw motor (for 3-phase A.C. supply), 4 h.p.; pump motor (for 3-phase A.C. supply), 1 h.p.; length of standard tables, as fitted 16 ft.
